Spartan, more formally known as a Spartan soldier, are enhanced supersoldier characters appearing extensively throughout the *Halo* video game franchise. These warriors are genetically and technologically augmented humans.
The first generation of Spartans, the SPARTAN-I project, began with ethically questionable origins focused on insurrection suppression. Later generations, such as the SPARTAN-II and SPARTAN-III projects, concentrated on creating elite fighting forces to combat the Covenant.
